Abdulrahman-led PDP fixes national convention for March

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Muhammed has fixed its National Convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, to be held in Abuja.
The decision was taken on Monday during the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was chaired by Muhammed in his capacity as Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu serving as secretary.
At the meeting, the NEC reviewed the state of the party, preparations for forthcoming congresses nationwide, and recent judicial developments affecting the PDP.
The committee reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, declaring it the only lawful national administrative organ of the party.
It also resolved that the committee would continue to function as the National Working Committee until a new leadership is elected at the convention.
The NEC approved a timetable for party congresses, with ward and local government congresses scheduled for February 2026, while state congresses are expected to hold in March 2026.
It directed the National Caretaker Committee to issue detailed guidelines and notices to ensure that all congresses comply with the PDP Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations, and existing court rulings.
Welcoming the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, the NEC reiterated its support for the independence of the judiciary and urged all party organs and members to strictly adhere to judicial decisions.
In preparation for the national convention, the NEC ordered the immediate activation of convention sub-committees and the commencement of necessary logistical and administrative arrangements.
It also approved the extension of the tenure of state and zonal caretaker committees pending the conduct of congresses and the national convention.
The committee called on party members to remain united and disciplined, stressing that collective party interest must supersede personal ambitions.
It expressed confidence that the resolutions reached would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability and reposition the PDP for future electoral contests.
