Kwankwasiyya denies rumours of Kwankwaso APC defection

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed circulating rumours that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the reports as false and misleading.
Spokesperson Habibu Sale Mohammed told journalists on Tuesday that Kwankwaso has no intentions of joining the APC, citing the party’s uncertain political future.
The clarification comes in the wake of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection from the NNPP to the APC, which fueled speculation about the former Kano State governor’s political alignment.
“We state clearly, categorically, and without any ambiguity that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has never at any time entered into negotiations, discussions, or meetings with the APC, President Bola Tinubu, or any proxy for the purpose of defection,” the statement read.
The movement warned that such baseless reports could damage reputations and mislead the public, calling the allegations “entirely false, baseless, and deliberately misleading.”
Kwankwasiyya clarified that the last formal meeting between Kwankwaso and President Tinubu occurred in January 2024, emphasising that no discussions on defection, political bargaining, or party alignment took place.
“It is deeply troubling that allegations of such gravity are being published and amplified without verifiable facts,” Mohammed added.
