NAF accelerates acquisition of modern aircraft as key infrastructure projects are inaugurated

Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke has announced that the Nigerian Air Force is fast-tracking the procurement of more than 46 advanced fighter aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria across the full spectrum of air operations.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of critical infrastructural projects at NAF Base Kaduna President Bola Tinubu, the CAS acknowledged the federal government’s support in facilitating bilateral defence engagements and enabling the acquisition of advanced helicopters and UAVs.
The infrastructure inaugurated includes six blocks of 12 one-bedroom Student Pilots’ Quarters, a block of six three-bedroom flats initiated by the Ministry of Defence and completed by the NAF, and 30 one-bedroom studio apartments for airmen and airwomen at the Military Training Centre.
According to Air Marshal Aneke, these facilities are crucial for preparing pilots to operate advanced aircraft and project effective air power in counterterrorism operations while safeguarding national security.
“The inauguration goes beyond buildings; it reflects my command philosophy to enhance and sustain a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive air power in synergy with surface forces,” he said, urging personnel to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism.
He commended former CAS Air Marshal H.B. Abubakar, the Logistics Branch, Air Officers Commanding, and contractors for timely project delivery.
Meanwhile, General Olufemi Oluyede charged troops of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe (JTF SS OPDS), to perform their duties with professionalism and integrity during the inauguration of modern Non-Commissioned Officers’ accommodation and a remodelled conference hall at the JTF SS OPDS Headquarters in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Major General Samaila Uba, the CDS reaffirmed his commitment to improving welfare and working conditions for Armed Forces personnel.
The newly commissioned NCO accommodation comprises 24 apartments equipped with 24-hour solar power, water facilities, bedding, and cooling systems, designed to enhance comfort, morale, and operational readiness.
Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo thanked the CDS for his presence and explained that the projects align with his strategic philosophy, placing troop welfare at the forefront.
He reiterated that Operation Delta Safe remains focused on protecting oil and gas infrastructure, deterring militancy, combating sea robbery, and safeguarding lives and property across the Niger Delta region.
The initiatives highlight the Nigerian military’s dual focus on operational modernization and personnel welfare, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and strategic readiness.
