Dangote predicts naira could hit N1,100

Aliko Aliko Dangote has forecast that the naira could strengthen to N1,100 per dollar in 2026, citing government policies and Nigeria’s industrial potential during a Tuesday event.

He made the remarks at the launch of the National Industrial Policy 2025 by the federal government, highlighting steps to boost local manufacturing and economic growth.

The naira has recently appreciated, trading at N1,335.95 per dollar in the official market and N1,380 per dollar on the black market as of Tuesday.

Dangote emphasised Nigeria’s industrial capacity and rising disposable incomes, noting manufacturers’ satisfaction with recent government policies.

He said current policies have started showing tangible results.

“Blocking imports and boosting local production could see the naira strengthen to N1,100 this year, if we are lucky,” Dangote added, urging government support for domestic manufacturing.

He warned that a stronger naira could reduce government revenue from foreign exchange but stressed the need to reduce import dependence by producing local goods.

Dangote’s forecast aligned with optimism from other business leaders.

Femi Femi Otedola projected the naira could trade below N1,000 per dollar by year-end as domestic refining capacity expands.
