Gov. Diri urges team Bayelsa to defend NDDC games title

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has called on Team Bayelsa to uphold its champion status at the ongoing Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Games in Benin, Edo State.

Speaking during the weekly prosperity walk at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Thursday, the governor reiterated his administration’s focus on promoting sports development and nurturing athletic talent.

He highlighted the state’s ongoing investment in sports infrastructure, including the 30,000-capacity stadium under construction at Igbogene, as a demonstration of Bayelsa’s long-term vision for the sector.

“This team is the defending champion. Despite the age differences in this year’s edition, I expect discipline, focus, and excellence from every athlete and official.

“Bayelsa led the inaugural NDDC Games, and I charge you to maintain that top position, ” Diri said.

The Bayelsa contingent, comprising 270 athletes, is set to compete in 16 events across the competition.

The governor encouraged them to demonstrate commitment and teamwork as they aim to defend the title.
