Tinubu hails FCT, Rivers, Kano winners of by-elections

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the Federal Capital Territory area council elections and the by-elections conducted in Rivers and Kano states.
The President urged the winners to discharge their duties with humility, patriotism and dedication, describing the mandate given to them by voters as a sacred trust.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday Tinubu commended the conduct of the polls and praised participants for their maturity.
He applauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, citing infrastructural strides in the territory and describing them as politically rewarding for the ruling party.
The President also congratulated the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress and its state chapters in Kano and Rivers for what he called significant electoral victories.
Tinubu further lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and voters for ensuring a peaceful and orderly exercise across the affected states.
He noted that the discipline shown by contestants strengthened democratic culture, adding that robust participation and healthy competition remain central to Nigeria’s democratic growth.
The electoral body conducted chairmanship and councillorship elections across the six area councils of the FCT.
By-elections were also held in Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies in Rivers State, alongside legislative contests in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
In the FCT, the APC secured victories in Abuja Municipal, Kwali and Bwari area councils.
However, in Gwagwalada Area Council, Mohammed Kasim of the PDP polled 22,165 votes to defeat his APC rival, Yahaya Shehu, who scored 17,788 votes.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to credible elections and encouraged the electoral commission to continue improving future electoral processes nationwide.
