Dickson highlights service, faith as leadership principles

Senator Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa West has reaffirmed that his guiding principles in public life are rooted in service to humanity and faith in God, even as he navigates personal and political challenges.
Dickson made the remarks while receiving the Transparency in Leadership Award from the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness at the National Assembly on Monday.
He emphasised that these values have shaped his governance decisions and approach over the last two decades.
Reflecting on his extensive career, Dickson noted his tenure as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice under former Governor Goodluck Jonathan (2006–2007), his subsequent service in the House of Representatives representing Sagbama–Ekeremor Federal Constituency (2007–2012), two terms as Governor of Bayelsa, and his current role in the Senate since 2020.
“Transparency and accountability have always guided my leadership.
“Public trust is earned through honesty and responsible stewardship, and even in adversity, remaining true to one’s moral compass ensures integrity, ” he said.
Dickson urged civil society to recognise and appreciate dedicated, honest Nigerians across all sectors, noting that integrity exists even in institutions often criticised.
“Even in the judiciary and the police, there are hardworking individuals upholding the law,” he said, recalling his own early career as a police officer.
The senator also highlighted his efforts to restore law and order during his tenure as governor, addressing not only crime but its underlying causes.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ethical leadership and sincere service to the public.
