Member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Revd.) Francis Ejiroghene Waive, has defended the Delta State Government’s ongoing flyover projects, insisting that President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks cautioning governors against building unnecessary flyovers were never aimed at Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Waive made the clarification in a statement amid public reactions to the President’s comments, stressing that the flyovers completed and those currently under construction across Delta State were conceived to solve long-standing traffic congestion in strategic locations.
According to the lawmaker, the projects were not politically motivated but were the outcome of careful planning and assessments of the state’s transportation and infrastructure needs.
“The flyovers constructed and those currently under construction by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori are absolutely necessary.
‘:Deltans can testify that they are all located in areas where severe traffic gridlock is a regular occurrence, ” he said.
He explained that the Federal Government has on several occasions acknowledged Delta State’s achievements in road infrastructure, noting that the state had earned national recognition for its road and flyover projects even before similar developments gained momentum elsewhere.
Waive also dismissed suggestions that the administration was focusing only on road construction, saying Governor Oborevwori has maintained a balanced development agenda by investing heavily in healthcare, education, bridges, rural roads and social welfare programmes alongside major infrastructure projects.
He described criticisms of the flyovers by opposition politicians as politically motivated, arguing that those questioning the projects were ignoring the daily traffic challenges experienced by residents in the affected areas.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that the governor’s performance in office would continue to earn public support, predicting that Deltans would reward him with another mandate in 2027 to consolidate on his achievements.
He further urged Governor Oborevwori to sustain the pace of development by expanding road networks, constructing more bridges and flyovers where necessary, and strengthening social investment programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
Waive said the governor’s ‘MORE Agenda’ complements President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that continued collaboration between both governments would accelerate development and improve the quality of life of residents across Delta State.
