Odigie-Oyegun raises alarm over security in Edo

Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, National Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Edo State governor, has voiced concern over the capacity of security agencies to apprehend gunmen who attacked his residence and the party secretariat in Benin on Tuesday.

Speaking on Friday after the ADC South-South Zonal Leadership Committee meeting, Odigie-Oyegun said the party received advance warning of the attack, which mitigated potential harm.

“I am not sure if an arrest has been made. I am also not sure if an arrest will be made, considering the nature of the event,” he said, noting that armed individuals were seen in broad daylight without immediate action from authorities.

He urged the government to promote peace and avoid violence in the lead-up to elections, stressing that the ADC would work to remain a choice for Nigerians.

Odigie-Oyegun also called on party leaders and members in the South-South zone to collaborate and learn from one another’s experiences to strengthen the party’s influence and serve as a model for other regions.

Meanwhile, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amechi officially announced his presidential ambition at the same meeting, drawing attention to the political dynamics within the region.
