Tinubu celebrates Nigerian women on International Women’s day

President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigerian women for their contributions to national development, pledging that his administration will continue to create opportunities that enable them to thrive.
In a statement marking the 2026 edition of International Women’s Day, the president celebrated the resilience, strength, and determination demonstrated by women across the country and in the diaspora.
Tinubu noted that Nigerian women play vital roles in families, businesses, public service, and leadership, describing them as central to the country’s progress.
According to him, women continue to shape the nation’s future through their dedication in homes, markets, workplaces, and positions of authority.
He emphasised the responsibility of government and society to ensure that every Nigerian girl has access to education and that women have the opportunity to participate fully in economic and national development.
The president said the administration remains committed to policies that will create an enabling environment for women to succeed, stressing that the nation’s growth is closely tied to the advancement of its women.
“When Nigerian women rise, Nigeria rises,” he said, while highlighting the role women have played in strengthening democracy and supporting communities across the country.
Meanwhile, several state governors also joined in celebrating women on the occasion.
Uba Sani praised women for their role in governance, entrepreneurship, and community development, saying his administration is expanding opportunities for their participation in leadership and economic activities.
Similarly, Bassey Otu described women in his state as pillars of resilience and creativity whose efforts continue to drive progress in sectors such as agriculture, education, and commerce.
International Women’s Day is observed annually around the world to recognise the achievements of women and advocate for greater gender equality.
Leaders across Nigeria used the occasion to highlight the importance of empowering women as a critical step toward national development.
