Matawalle welcomes Zamfara Governor Lawal to APC

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle has welcomed the defection of Dauda Lawal to the All Progressives Congress, describing the development as a significant moment for the political future of Zamfara State.
Matawalle, a former governor of the state, announced his support for Lawal in a statement shared on his verified social media account, where he described the governor’s move as a step toward strengthening unity and governance in the state.
According to the minister, the defection marks the beginning of renewed political cooperation aimed at tackling security challenges and advancing development initiatives in Zamfara.
He noted that the state requires collective effort from political leaders and stakeholders to confront rising insecurity and ensure sustainable growth for residents.
Matawalle also linked the development to the broader national agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the governor’s decision aligns with the administration’s “Renewed Hope” programme.
“Today marks a historic moment in the political history of our state and the nation as we welcome Governor Dauda Lawal into the APC,” Matawalle said, describing the development as a reunion built on shared commitment to national progress.
He stressed that politics should serve as a platform for building alliances rather than deepening divisions, noting that cooperation among leaders is necessary to address pressing national issues.
Matawalle further urged members of the ruling party to close ranks and support the governor’s administration while preparing for future political contests, particularly the 2027 general elections.
Governor Lawal recently announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing internal disputes within the party as one of the reasons behind his decision to join the APC.
