NDC eyes Cross River revival ahead of 2027

As preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections, conversations about the future of Cross River State are gaining renewed attention across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas.

Many residents said the coming election cycle presents another opportunity to redefine governance and accelerate development.

Amid these discussions, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has emerged as a political platform positioning itself around promises of accountable leadership, grassroots development and inclusive governance.

Supporters of the party argue that Cross River State possesses the natural resources, cultural diversity and human capital required to become one of Nigeria’s most economically vibrant states.

However, they maintained that unlocking this potential would require leadership that places greater emphasis on people-oriented policies and long-term development planning.

According to party advocates, the Nigeria Democratic Congress was founded on principles centered on public service, transparency and responsibility in governance.

The party said it intends to promote a political culture where leadership is defined by service to the people rather than personal or partisan interests.

The NDC’s agenda, as outlined by its promoters, includes programmes aimed at youth empowerment, women’s inclusion in governance, support for farmers and improved opportunities for small and medium-scale businesses.

Across communities from Obanliku to Calabar Municipal and other local government areas, residents are being encouraged to become more involved in the political process.

Party members said wider civic participation is essential for building a movement capable of driving meaningful change in the state.

Advocates of the NDC argued that active political engagement at the grassroots level will help ensure that governance reflects the needs and aspirations of local communities.

Among the priorities outlined by the party are improvements in infrastructure, enhanced educational opportunities, stronger healthcare systems and policies designed to stimulate agricultural productivity and economic growth.

Supporters say that by strengthening local economies and investing in social services, the state can create more opportunities for its growing population while improving living standards across rural and urban communities.

As the 2027 elections approach, proponents of the party say the focus should remain on unity, development and collective progress.

They maintained that with sustained public participation and responsible leadership, Cross River State can advance toward greater economic stability, social development and broader prosperity for its citizens.
