FG partnering globally to address insecurity — Akpabio

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has reassured Nigerians that tackling insecurity remains a central focus of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Senate said the Federal Government was implementing a range of strategies aimed at restoring peace and strengthening safety across the country.
Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of a sub-committee of the National Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Senate President said the government was intensifying efforts to confront security threats through both domestic initiatives and international cooperation.
Akpabio explained that the government was engaging with members of the international community to address the country’s security challenges and improve national stability.
According to him, such partnerships are crucial in combating threats that increasingly cut across borders.
The Senate President noted that the ruling party was satisfied with the progress made so far by the administration and remained confident that ongoing policies would help reposition Nigeria as a more secure and stable nation.
He also called on citizens to support government efforts by strengthening Nigeria’s internal economic capacity, especially at a time when global political and economic tensions continue to affect national economies.
Akpabio referenced ongoing international conflicts, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
He noted that these developments have contributed to economic uncertainty around the world.
In light of these challenges, he urged Nigerians to adopt a more self-reliant approach to economic growth.
According to him, the country must focus on strengthening local industries by prioritising domestic production and consumption.
“This is the time to think Nigeria,” Akpabio said.
“In everything we do, both in policies and legislation, we must look inward, consume what we produce, and produce what we consume.”
The Senate President stressed that strengthening local productivity and supporting home-grown industries would help the country withstand external economic pressures while also creating opportunities for national development.
