Gowon praises Tinubu’s leadership during villa visit

Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has expressed strong confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the current administration is making significant efforts to address the country’s economic, political, and social challenges.
Gowon made the remarks on Saturday during a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he met with the president to discuss national developments and the direction of the country.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the former military leader said his visit was primarily to commend the president for the work his administration has been doing since assuming office.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity to review the country’s progress and acknowledge the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy and improve governance.
Gowon noted that the Tinubu administration is making determined efforts to tackle issues affecting the nation and steer the country toward development.
He said the president appears committed to managing the country’s affairs across different sectors.
“I came to see him and thank him for all the work he is doing for the country.
“We discussed the progress Nigeria is making economically and in other areas.
”He is doing the best he can in terms of politics, the economy, and social development, ” he said.
The former leader also spoke about the country’s security situation, which remains a major concern for many Nigerians.
According to him, the president is making serious efforts to address the security challenges confronting the nation.
He explained that the government is working to balance the need for stability while dealing with threats affecting communities across the country.
Gowon added that resolving such challenges requires careful leadership to avoid creating additional problems.
“Security is one of the biggest issues Nigeria faces today, but the president is doing everything possible to manage the situation,” he said.
“He has to consider the interests of the country in all areas while addressing these challenges.”
Gowon further stressed that the responsibility of addressing the country’s current challenges rests with the sitting government, adding that the administration must be allowed to implement its strategies for national stability.
According to him, the president is handling these issues with caution in order to prevent actions that could worsen the situation or destabilize the country further.
The former leader described his visit as a personal gesture of encouragement and appreciation for the president’s efforts to manage complex national issues.
Gowon ruled Nigeria between 1966 and 1975 and remains one of the country’s most prominent elder statesmen.
His remarks are seen by political observers as a show of support from a respected national figure for the current administration.
Photos released after the meeting showed Gowon and President Tinubu exchanging greetings and engaging in discussions at the Presidential Villa, reflecting a cordial interaction between the two leaders.
