Police halt ADC secretariat launch in Cross River

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the disruption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat inauguration in the Bakassi area of Cross River State.

The event, which was expected to mark a key milestone for the opposition party, was abruptly halted after unidentified individuals stormed the venue.

According to reports, the intruders pulled down canopies, scattered chairs, and damaged parts of the sound system, causing panic among attendees.

The disturbance forced organisers to suspend the event while participants scrambled to safety.

Police spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah said security operatives, including tactical response teams, were quickly deployed to restore order.

“The situation has been brought under control, and relevant agencies will continue monitoring while investigations are ongoing,” he added.

The launch disruption comes ahead of the ADC’s national convention, scheduled for April 14, 2026.

The party also plans to hold ward congresses starting April 7, followed by local government and state congresses in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by National Organising Secretary Prince Chinwdu Idigo and National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC urged members to participate in the renewal of leadership structures in line with the party constitution and democratic principles.

Forms and further information are available on the ADC official website.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions in the political landscape as parties gear up for the 2027 elections.
