Bayelsa youths dump PDP, join NDC

A youth group in Bayelsa State, the Ofurumapepe Youths Group, has announced its resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared its decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The announcement was made after an extensive meeting of the group where members unanimously agreed to align with the vision and leadership of the NDC, which they described as a new political platform committed to progressive politics and meaningful development for the state and the wider Ijaw nation.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the group’s coordinator, Preye Okoriye, explained that the decision followed careful deliberations among members who expressed confidence in the leadership direction of the emerging political movement.

According to the statement, the youths were particularly motivated by the leadership credentials and political experience of Senator Seriake Dickson, whom they praised for his longstanding commitment to the development of Bayelsa and the Niger Delta region.

The group noted that the formation of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has reignited hope among young people and grassroots political actors who are eager to be actively involved in building a more inclusive and people-focused political movement.

They also pledged their full support to Senator Dickson, describing him as a visionary leader whose achievements in governance and public service continue to inspire the younger generation.

The Ofurumapepe youths further declared their readiness to mobilise support for the party at the grassroots level, promising to work across communities to strengthen the structures of the NDC and expand its presence throughout the state.

The group also called on youths and political stakeholders across Bayelsa State to join the party, which they described as a historic political movement aimed at deepening democracy, promoting good governance and advancing the collective interests of the people.

They expressed optimism that the growing support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress would position the party as a strong platform for political participation and development in the state.
