NFF appeals FIFA ruling after DR Congo world cup win

The Nigeria Football Federation has launched an appeal against FIFA’s decision rejecting its complaint over the eligibility of certain Democratic Republic of Congo players during the 2026 World Cup play-off in Rabat.
Nigeria was eliminated after losing 4-3 on penalties. The NFF claimed some DR Congo players had irregular passports. FIFA dismissed the petition after months of review.
NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi said the appeal process has begun, signaling the federation’s determination to pursue the case through proper channels.
DR Congo now awaits the intercontinental play-off against the winner between Jamaica national football team and New Caledonia national football team for a final World Cup spot.
FIFA fined Nigeria 1,000 Swiss francs for fans throwing objects and DR Congo 5,000 Swiss francs for laser pointer use during the match. Both fines are open to appeal.
The NFF’s appeal reflects its commitment to ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of Nigerian football internationally.
