Fubara vows safety for all Rivers residents

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents, including members of the Muslim community.

The governor made the assurance on Friday in Port Harcourt while receiving a delegation from the Muslim ummah, led by Alhaji Nasir Uhor.

The visiting delegation, which included Islamic clerics and leaders from the Arewa community, came to pay a courtesy call as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Fubara emphasised that all residents, regardless of their origin or religion, are considered indigenes of Rivers State.

“This is because they live, conduct business and contribute to the socio-economic development of Rivers. In essence, you are Rivers indigenes, even if not by birth.

”Because you live here, have your homes and children here, government will protect your lives and property.

”We will do our best to make Rivers safe for everyone living and doing business here,” he said.

The governor also commended the Muslim community for their devotion and perseverance during the Ramadan fast.

Addressing farmer-herder conflicts, Fubara noted that Rivers has remained largely peaceful through strategic engagement and close coordination with security agencies.

He further urged Islamic leaders to reinforce communication within their communities to sustain peace.

“It is important leaders engage their people to conduct themselves properly in their communities. You are their leaders, so guide them, so we all work together for the state’s peace,” he stated.

Governor Fubara assured the delegation that their requests were under review and would be addressed according to available resources.

Alhaji Uhor expressed gratitude for the governor’s inclusiveness and willingness to meet with the delegation.

He also made specific appeals, requesting the construction of a central mosque in Port Harcourt, the return of the Muslim cemetery section to the council, and allocation of land for a mosque at Rivers State University.
