FG approves dualisation of Bodo-Bonny road

The federal government has approved the dualisation of the Bodo-Bonny Road to create a direct link to the East-West Road, a bid to enhance transport and connectivity in the South-South region.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this during a weekend tour of projects in the region, saying President Bola Tinubu had directed that the road from the Bodo axis be expanded to connect with the East-West Road, a key transport artery.
Umahi added that the project would include the installation of solar-powered streetlights and tree planting along both sides of the 37.9-kilometre route linking Bonny Island to the mainland as part of beautification efforts.
The road would be constructed with concrete and is expected to be completed within eight months.
At the Akpajo Bridge section of the East-West Road dualisation, Umahi commended the progress of work but cautioned the public against allowing heavy trucks on completed sections, warning that such traffic could compromise the road’s durability.
During a visit to the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway, the minister praised GRB Construction for the rehabilitation and expansion of the road from the Aba axis to the Imo River bridge boundary with Rivers State.
Federal Controller of Works in Rivers State, Tarilade Ewereama, confirmed that repairs on failed sections had been completed, noting that all works meet required standards and milestones.
“The project will be completed before the end of the year,” she said.
The Project Manager of GRB Construction highlighted that the rehabilitation and expansion had extended the road’s lifespan and improved drainage systems to handle heavy traffic.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-East), Chioma Nweze, lauded the initiative, describing it as a step towards giving the region a stronger sense of inclusion.
She urged residents of both the South-East and South-South to support the administration in delivering more dividends of democracy.
