APC intensifies South-South grassroots mobilisation drive

Governors and key figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified mobilisation efforts in the South-South, urging party faithful to adopt a unified message and strengthen grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made by Governor Hope Uzodimma and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori during a strategic communications and mobilisation summit held on Monday in Asaba
The event, themed “One Party, One Message, One Mobilisation,” brought together party leaders and stakeholders from across the region.
Both governors stressed that Nigeria’s ongoing reforms require coordinated communication and active grassroots participation to achieve meaningful results.
They noted that consistent messaging and unity within the party are critical to sustaining public support.
Uzodimma, who also serves as Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, revealed that the summit produced a comprehensive national work plan with clear timelines and responsibilities.
He described the document as a guiding framework for mobilising support and advancing economic development nationwide.
He acknowledged improvements in macroeconomic indicators such as GDP growth, increased oil production, and higher revenue allocation, but pointed out a disconnect between these gains and the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, party ambassadors must bridge this gap by simplifying government policies and engaging directly with communities.
The governor admitted that reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments have caused temporary hardship, but maintained they are necessary to address long-standing structural issues.
He urged party representatives to adopt transparent, data-driven communication while countering misinformation.
In his remarks, Oborevwori described the summit as a strategic platform to deepen grassroots mobilisation in the South-South.
He warned that disunity and inconsistent messaging could weaken the party’s chances, stressing that unity must translate into action at all levels.
Former Delta governor Ifeanyi, Senator Okowa said the initiative was designed to equip participants with tools to effectively communicate the Federal Government’s reform agenda.
He highlighted progress in areas such as foreign reserves, oil output, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, while admitting that many citizens remain unaware of these gains due to communication gaps.
Okowa urged party members to engage citizens directly in markets, communities, and institutions, using relatable examples to explain policies and counter opposition narratives.
Other speakers at the event emphasised the strategic importance of the South-South region, describing it as central to Nigeria’s economic and political landscape.
They expressed confidence that growing support for the APC in the region would play a decisive role in the 2027 elections.
The summit ended with a call for discipline, coordinated action, and sustained engagement at the grassroots, with party leaders insisting that effective communication and mobilisation will determine both the success of ongoing reforms and future electoral victories.
