Dickson urges APC ouster in 2027

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has called for the removal of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, arguing that the party has failed to deliver on its promises to Nigerians.

Dickson, who currently represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made this position known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of governance under the APC-led federal administration.

The lawmaker blamed the party for the country’s worsening socio-economic conditions, stating that Nigeria has regressed in key areas since the APC assumed power.

According to him, the party lacked a clear development agenda from the outset, focusing primarily on unseating former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections rather than presenting a structured plan for governance.

Reflecting on the APC’s rise to power, Dickson noted that the coalition which brought the party into office was largely driven by the desire for political change without sufficient clarity on post-election objectives.

He argued that while “change” was the dominant campaign message at the time, its implementation has produced adverse outcomes.

He further contended that the situation in the country has deteriorated across critical sectors.

On corruption, Dickson claimed that financial mismanagement has escalated, with public discourse now involving figures in trillions.

He also criticised the government’s handling of insecurity and economic challenges, asserting that the conditions citizens face today are worse than those under previous administrations.

The senator added that the APC has not only fallen short in governance delivery but has also struggled with fostering democratic values and managing Nigeria’s diversity effectively.

These shortcomings, he suggested, underlined the need for a political shift in the next electoral cycle.

The APC came into power in 2015 on a platform anchored on three major promises: tackling corruption, revitalising the economy, and addressing insecurity.

However, Dickson argued that measurable progress in these areas remained limited, with many indicators pointing to a decline instead.

As political conversations around the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum, Dickson’s remarks contribute to a growing debate about the performance of the current administration and the future direction of Nigeria’s leadership.
