Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Delta State, Sir Festus Ahon, has described the recently concluded South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a historic gathering, highlighting unity, consolidation, and renewed political strength across the region.
Speaking to journalists after the congress, Ahon expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the event, noting it marked a new chapter of political alignment and cooperation among South-South states.
“This is a congress of unity and consolidation. After a very long time, the South-South zone is coming together under one political party to actualise the aspirations and dreams of the people,” he said.
Ahon commended governors and party leaders for their foresight in uniting under the APC ahead of future elections, emphasising that the congress is a major step toward strengthening the region’s political relevance at the national level.
“As a zone that contributes significantly to the nation’s economy, it is only proper that we align with the government at the center to maximize opportunities for development of the region,” he added.
The Governor’s spokesman urged newly elected zonal executives to sustain the unity achieved, promoting peace, collaboration, and harmony to enhance the party’s chances in upcoming elections.
“They must work in unity and ensure that peace and harmony prevail. It is only through unity that we can achieve our collective goals and deliver the zone politically,” Ahon stated.
He also highlighted the high level of participation at the congress, noting the presence of governors from across the South-South, the Senate President, members of the House of Representatives, State Assemblies, and other key stakeholders.
According to Ahon, the massive turnout underscores growing cohesion within the region and signals a shared commitment to advancing the South-South’s interests under a unified political platform.
The congress, widely regarded as a significant milestone for the APC in the region, concluded peacefully, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the party’s prospects and the future of the South-South zone.
