Tiger Woods arrested after Florida car crash

Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on Friday, March 27, 2026, on suspicion of driving under the influence following a two-vehicle collision near his home on Jupiter Island, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that Woods displayed “signs of impairment” after the crash.

Sheriff John M. Budensiek said officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and conducted roadside tests to assess Woods’ condition.

The crash occurred when Woods attempted to overtake a pressure-cleaner truck on a two-lane road.

In the process, he clipped the back of the truck’s trailer while trying to avoid a collision.

His Land Rover rolled onto its driver’s side, but Woods managed to crawl out through the passenger door. Thankfully, neither Woods nor the other driver sustained injuries.

A breathalyser test performed at the scene came back negative. However, Woods refused to submit to a urine test, leading to his arrest.

He was taken into custody and is required to remain in jail for at least eight hours.

He now faced charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both of which are classified as misdemeanours.

This latest incident added to a series of driving-related episodes in Woods’ career.

He was involved in a serious crash in Los Angeles in 2021 that left him with multiple leg and ankle injuries.

He also faced a DUI charge in 2017 after being found asleep behind the wheel, eventually pleading guilty to reckless driving.

At 50 years old, Woods remained one of golf’s most accomplished figures, with 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour wins, tying him with Sam Snead.

In recent years, he has been recovering from multiple injuries, including a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2025 and recent back surgery.

He has not competed regularly since the The Open Championship and has not confirmed his participation in the 2026 Masters in April.

Off the course, Woods continued to influence the sport.

He serves as chairman of the PGA Tour’s Future Competition Committee and is considering whether to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2027.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation, and further updates are expected as the legal process unfolds.
