Oluremi Tinubu stresses importance of books in children’s education

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the enduring importance of books in schools, despite the rapid rise of digital technology and social media.
She made the remarks during a meeting with United States Special Envoy for Best Future Generations, Charles Harder, held on the sidelines of the Fostering the Future Together Global Summit in Washington, D.C., hosted by Melania Trump.
Mrs. Tinubu highlighted that books provide children with an opportunity to expand their knowledge without the distractions that often accompany digital platforms.
She further emphasised that education remains a cornerstone of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, underlining the significance of building a strong educational foundation for national development.
“If you want to help people, you must first understand who they really are. My husband understands this.
”He is trying to sanitise the system and build a formidable foundation,” she said.
The First Lady also announced plans to launch a nationwide campaign focusing on child nutrition, a project her office intends to prioritise in the near future.
Speaking during the meeting, Charles Harder explained that the discussions aimed to advance strategies for improving the welfare and development of Nigerian children.
He noted that the Best Future Generations initiative sought to tackle global challenges affecting children, including nutrition, health, and protection from abuse.
The engagement took place amid a global summit attended by more than 45 First Ladies, focusing on the implications of artificial intelligence for children and adolescents worldwide.
Mrs. Tinubu’s interventions underscored her commitment to fostering education, health, and wellbeing for Nigeria’s younger generation.
