Plateau govt imposes 48-hour curfew in after deadly attack

The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba that left multiple casualties.
The curfew, effective from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026, was announced by Commissioner for Information and Communication Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap.
Ramnap described the measure as necessary after a “tragic security incident” that heightened tension in the community.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack as “barbaric and unprovoked,” assuring residents that security agencies have been mobilised to restore order and bring perpetrators to justice.
“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North LGA with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Residents were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security operatives, and restrict movements except for essential services.
Plateau State, like other areas in Nigeria’s North-Central and North-West regions, has recently faced repeated attacks by non-state actors.
On March 14, gunmen reportedly killed 20 people and stole cattle from a village in Jos. The Kanam Development Association (KADA) confirmed that 12 security personnel and eight civilians died in a gunfire exchange following an ambush on patrolling soldiers.
The government warned that the curfew would remain strictly enforced to prevent further violence, while emphasising ongoing investigations to hold attackers accountable.
