Wike slams Bala Mohammed as inconsistent

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, describing him as inconsistent in his political conduct.
Wike made the remarks while addressing journalists during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, where he also responded to allegations made by the governor.
According to the minister, ahead of the recent national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bala Mohammed approached him with a request to produce the party’s National Secretary, an appeal he said he declined.
He further alleged that in 2022, the Bauchi governor had urged him to support Bola Tinubu, then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 general election, only to reverse his position shortly after.
Wike said such actions underscored what he described as a pattern of inconsistency.
“It’s very embarrassing. He (Bala Mohammed) says one thing in the morning; in the afternoon, he says a different thing. But for us, we are very happy that he has told Nigerians who he is—that he’s never been stable,” Wike stated.
The minister also dismissed claims by Bala Mohammed that he was planted to destabilise the PDP, describing the allegation as unfounded.
He said the accusation was “embarrassing, baseless and a product of an inconsistent mindset.”
Wike went further to mock the governor’s reported demand for the position of PDP National Secretary for his faction, arguing that such a request was unrealistic given the circumstances.
“You’re already conquered; you lost. You’re talking from a weak point, and you want to demand Secretary? That is not done,” he said.
Despite the ongoing internal disagreements within the PDP, Wike expressed confidence in the party’s resilience, noting that the recent convention had disproved predictions of its collapse.
“The convention has shown that the PDP is alive and kicking. Yes, there are one or two issues, but that is normal, and we will fix them,” he added.
He also cautioned Nigerians against politicians who frequently change positions, urging the public to be wary of leaders who lack consistency.
Reaffirming his political stance, Wike said he remained a member of the PDP but will continue to support President Tinubu.
“I have made it clear: I will not leave the PDP, but I will continue to support President Bola Tinubu.
”That has always been my position since 2022. I didn’t hide. Unlike those who will say one thing in the morning and say another in the afternoon,” he declared.
During the visit, the minister also expressed satisfaction with the progress of key infrastructure projects across Abuja, including road and bridge developments linking Jahi, Gwarimpa, Kuje, and Gwagwalada, which are expected to be commissioned as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the current administration.
