Tinubu mourns soldiers killed in Borno attack
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, following a terrorist attack in Benisheikh area of Borno State.
The President extended his condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the families of the fallen troops, urging them to remain resolute despite the tragic incident.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the attack was a coordinated assault carried out in the early hours of Thursday, leading to casualties among the troops.
Tinubu commended the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers, noting that they fought valiantly to repel the attackers and safeguard nearby communities.
He said their resistance prevented the insurgents from taking control of the area, underscoring the determination and resilience of the military in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
While mourning the loss, the President urged the leadership of the Armed Forces and personnel on the frontlines not to be discouraged.
“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders.
“The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation,” he said.
Tinubu also sympathised with the families of the deceased soldiers, led by Oseni Braimah, who lost his life in the attack.
“The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said.
He emphasised that the courage and commitment of the troops have further strengthened the nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and all forms of violence.
“I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged.
“Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism,” the President added.
Tinubu assured that the Federal Government would continue to provide the Armed Forces with necessary equipment and prioritise the welfare of military personnel.
He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts and refrain from actions that could undermine ongoing operations.
The President further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, assuring them of continued collaboration to restore lasting peace in the region.
