Anyafulu declares bid for Oshimili South reelection

Hon. Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, the lawmaker representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, has formally declared her intention to seek reelection.
Anyafulu, a first-time legislator, made her declaration on Saturday at a consultation meeting held at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government office, where she was received by party executives, ward leaders, and key stakeholders.
Addressing party faithful, she presented an overview of her achievements, highlighting her commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance.
She expressed gratitude to her constituents for entrusting her with the mandate to serve, noting that their support over the past three years had been instrumental to her performance.
“I want to thank everybody in this hall today for granting me the privilege to serve the people of Oshimili South. I will remain internally grateful to you all. Thank you,” she said.
The lawmaker also commended Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for their leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which she said has provided direction for governance at all levels.
“I also want to thank his Excellence, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu for what he is doing in this country and for all the kindness he has extended to Delta State.
”I want t also thank his Excellence Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Excellent and working Gôvernor of Delta State,” she added.
Her stewardship, she noted, has been characterised by targeted programmes aimed at improving living standards in Oshimili South through interventions in health, education, agriculture, and economic empowerment.
Constituents and stakeholders often describe her tenure as one defined by accessibility and responsiveness to community needs.
Educators say the programme has improved student engagement and awareness of sustainable practices.
In the education sector, Anyafulu has implemented initiatives to reduce barriers to learning.
Through her office, educational materials including school uniforms, notebooks, and school bags were distributed to pupils in both primary and secondary schools.
Anyafulu who is also, Chairman House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Humanitarian Support Services and Girl Child Development, said these efforts have helped ease financial pressure on families and encouraged higher school attendance.
Anyafulu said beyond this, she introduced school farming programs in selected schools across the constituency. She said the initiative was designed to promote food security while equipping students with practical agricultural knowledge.
The lawmaker said healthcare had also been a major focus of her administration.
She said through her intervention, at least 1,200 constituents have been enrolled in the state health insurance scheme, significantly improving access to affordable healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable households.
Anyafulu said economic empowerment also formed another key pillar of her work.
The lawmaker said she has provided financial support to petty traders, enabling many small-scale entrepreneurs to sustain and expand their businesses.
Beneficiaries report improved income levels and increased economic activity within local communities.
In addition, the lawmaker has facilitated employment opportunities for some constituents across both public and private sectors.
While modest in scale, these efforts have contributed to reducing unemployment and improving livelihoods.
Her administration has also emphasised inclusivity. She distributed working aids to persons living with disabilities, helping to enhance their mobility and productivity, and ensuring that development efforts reach marginalised groups.
Infrastructure development has equally featured prominently in her record. Anyafulu has played a role in attracting road projects to Oshimili South, improving connectivity and easing transportation challenges for residents.
As she seeks reelection, Anyafulu is presenting her track record as evidence of her capacity to deliver sustained development.
Responding, the LGA APC Chairman, Chief Dada Okolo commended Anyafulu for what he described as outstanding performance, effective representation, and significant contributions to the development and visibility of the area.
He urged her to sustain his commitment to public service and leadership responsibilities.
“Continue your excellent work. We commend the remarkable impact you have made so far and encourage you to remain steadfast on this path,” he said.
He added, “Keep representing Oshimili South with distinction and pride. When we want to send someone to represent us, we send someone who is grounded, someone who knows the way and is familiar with the leadership of the state. ‘
