Obi, Kwankwaso weigh options on NDC offer

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are reportedly assessing a political overture extended by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which has offered them its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes amid intensifying political realignments as parties position themselves for upcoming electoral contests and attempt to attract high-profile opposition figures into their platforms.
According to the report, the NDC has formally opened a pathway for both politicians to contest its presidential ticket, signalling what it described as a limited time frame tied to its internal primary schedule.
The party’s outreach was communicated via a post on its official X handle, where it indicated urgency in concluding arrangements ahead of its deadline.
“All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to deadline,” the party stated, accompanied by a symbolic image of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands with the caption: “Nigeria will be OK.”
The gesture has since sparked political conversations, with analysts viewing it as part of broader efforts by smaller and emerging parties to consolidate influence ahead of 2027.
Supporters of both politicians are also said to be actively promoting the idea of a joint political arrangement, popularly referred to as the “OK Movement,” which advocates a possible Obi-Kwankwaso alliance as a viable opposition force in the next election.
While speculation continues to grow, neither Peter Obi nor Rabiu Kwankwaso has publicly confirmed acceptance of the offer or formally declared intention to join the NDC platform.
The situation reflects ongoing uncertainty within opposition politics, where negotiations, alliances, and defections are increasingly shaping the race toward 2027, as parties seek strategic combinations capable of challenging the ruling establishment.
