APC unveils revised 2027 election timetable

Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced an updated timetable outlining key activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, including new dates for primaries, screening, and submission of nomination forms.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party also disclosed approved bank accounts for the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, signalling the formal commencement of its internal electoral process.

The notice was signed by the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, and separately confirmed by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

According to the APC, the revised schedule aligns with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 polls.

The party said the sale of forms commenced on April 25 and will end on May 2, 2026, while the deadline for submission of completed forms is May 4, 2026.

Screening of aspirants is scheduled to take place between May 6 and May 9, 2026.

This exercise would cover aspirants for State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential positions in phases.

Appeals arising from the screening of State House of Assembly and House of Representatives aspirants would be heard from May 12 to May 13, 2026.

Primary elections are set to begin on May 15, 2026, starting with the House of Representatives contests.

This would be followed by Senate, State Houses of Assembly, governorship, and presidential primaries, concluding on May 23, 2026.

The APC also released the cost of nomination forms across various positions.

Aspirants for State Houses of Assembly are to pay N1 million for the Expression of Interest form and N5 million for the Nomination form.

For the House of Representatives, the fees are N1 million and N9 million respectively, while Senate aspirants are to pay N3 million and N17 million.

Governorship aspirants will pay N10 million for the Expression of Interest form and N40 million for the Nomination form, while presidential aspirants are expected to pay N30 million and N70 million respectively.

The party added that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities would receive concessions, paying only the Expression of Interest fee and 50 per cent of the Nomination fee for each position.

It further directed that all payments be made into designated accounts in Union Bank Plc, UBA Plc, and Zenith Bank Plc, as part of measures to ensure transparency in the process.
