NDC begins nationwide congresses ahead of convention

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced its maiden round of party congresses across the country, marking a significant step in its internal political process ahead of its national convention slated for May 9, 2026.
This is contained in statement signed by Hon. Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the NDC.
According to the party’s officially released timetable, activities began with Ward and Polling Unit Congresses held on May 1 and May 2, 2026, respectively.
This is to be followed by Local Government Congresses scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2026.
On the same day, State Congresses are also expected to take place, while Zonal Congresses have been fixed for May 6, 2026.
Riding on the momentum of these ongoing exercises, the party is gearing up for its maiden National Convention, which will be held in Abuja on May 9, 2026.
The event is expected to draw accredited party members from across the federation, alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who would monitor proceedings in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
Preparations for the convention have reportedly been concluded by the party’s Convention Planning Committee, with assurances that all necessary arrangements are in place for a successful outing.
Party officials across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, have been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to guidelines and timelines.
National officers are also expected to supervise the process to guarantee compliance with the party’s constitution and regulations.
On logistics, security, and the distribution of materials for both state and national exercises, the leadership of the NDC has stated that adequate measures have been implemented.
These efforts, according to the party, are aimed at ensuring that all activities proceed smoothly and without disruption nationwide.
