Malami joins Kebbi governorship race

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially entered the race for the 2027 Kebbi State governorship election after obtaining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) nomination form.
Malami announced his decision in a statement shared on his social media platforms on Saturday, declaring that his ambition is motivated by what he described as the worsening condition of governance and rising hardship in Kebbi State.
The former minister said he could no longer remain silent while residents continue to face insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare services, declining educational standards and economic difficulties.
According to him, Kebbi State is currently experiencing a serious humanitarian and governance crisis that requires urgent intervention and purposeful leadership.
Malami cited several statistics to support his claims, alleging that more than 67 per cent of children between the ages of six and fifteen in the state are currently out of school.
He also claimed that over 88 per cent of children in the state are living in multidimensional poverty, describing the situation as alarming and unacceptable.
The ADC governorship aspirant further expressed concern about the healthcare sector, stating that maternal mortality remains high while many rural communities lack access to quality healthcare and proper antenatal services.
On security, Malami alleged that many communities across Kebbi State continue to suffer repeated attacks from bandits and kidnappers.
He said the growing insecurity has forced several farmers to abandon their farmlands while businesses operate under fear and uncertainty.
The former Attorney General accused the current administration in the state of focusing on the wrong priorities despite the increasing challenges confronting residents.
Declaring what he called a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi State, Malami pledged to prioritise security, education, healthcare, agriculture and youth empowerment if elected governor in 2027.
He promised to implement policies aimed at restoring safety, reviving economic activities and improving living conditions across the state.
Malami stated that his political ambition is built on service, accountability and sustainable development, insisting that Kebbi deserves more effective leadership.
He also maintained that the era of “empty propaganda” and ineffective governance must come to an end.
Calling on residents to support his aspiration, the former minister said collective efforts would be needed to rebuild the state and secure a better future for its people.
“There will be no retreat and no surrender in the collective struggle to rescue our state,” he declared.
Malami’s entry into the race added another major political figure to the growing list of aspirants preparing for the 2027 elections under the ADC platform.
