Fubara declines comment after APC screening exercise

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers on Sunday declined to comment after appearing before the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship screening panel in Abuja, choosing silence over engagement with journalists who pressed him for details of the exercise.
The governor arrived earlier at the Plateau State Government Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, where the screening was conducted for sitting governors and aspirants seeking party clearance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The venue served as the official point for the APC’s assessment of candidates’ eligibility and political standing within the party’s internal process.
Fubara later appeared before the screening committee chaired by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, as part of a wider review involving multiple political office holders across the country.
The exercise is understood to be part of the party’s early preparations for its governorship race strategy.
After completing the session, the Rivers governor exited the premises without offering any explanation or response to questions from journalists who had gathered outside.
When repeatedly asked to speak on how the screening went, he simply responded: “No comment,” before proceeding to leave the venue.
The brief remark marked the only public statement from the governor regarding the screening, leaving observers with no official indication of how the session unfolded or what issues were raised during the closed-door interaction.
The APC screening process continued to attract attention as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 elections, with several governors and aspirants expected to undergo similar assessments in the coming weeks.
