ADC screens 70 governorship aspirants

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced the screening of governorship aspirants ahead of its forthcoming party primaries, with more than 70 contenders undergoing the exercise on the first day.
The party disclosed that the screening exercise took place in Abuja on Monday as preparations intensified for upcoming elections in states where governorship polls are scheduled to hold.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, Mrs. Queen Okiyi, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, said the process was conducted smoothly and in line with the party’s commitment to transparency and due process.
According to her, two separate screening panels were constituted to handle the large number of aspirants, with each panel screening about 35 governorship hopefuls during the day.
Okiyi revealed that over 100 governorship aspirants are expected to participate in the exercise before its conclusion, adding that the remaining aspirants would be screened on Tuesday.
She noted that the screening process demonstrates the party’s determination to ensure credible candidate selection ahead of the primaries.
“So far, the screening has ended for today, and the exercise will continue tomorrow,” she stated.
The party also announced that the screening of presidential aspirants has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, as part of preparations for its national electoral activities.
In addition, the ADC disclosed that screening for affected National Assembly aspirants from some parts of Northern Nigeria would now be conducted in Abuja due to prevailing security concerns in the affected areas.
The development comes as political parties across the country intensify internal processes ahead of the next round of elections.
