Maresca tipped as Guardiola’s successor at City

Enzo Maresca has reportedly agreed terms to become the next manager of Manchester City, replacing Pep Guardiola at the end of the season, according to reports.
The development, published by GIVEMESPORT, followed claims that Guardiola is set to leave City this summer despite previously stating he still had one year remaining on his contract.
The club has not issued an official response to the reports.
Maresca, who recently departed Chelsea in January, had emerged as the leading candidate for the role in recent weeks.
He previously worked under Guardiola as an assistant coach at Manchester City during the 2022/23 season before taking charge of Leicester City in his first senior managerial position.
Manchester City’s succession planning for Guardiola is understood to have been in progress for several weeks, with Maresca now reportedly agreeing a deal that would see him return to the Etihad Stadium next season.
After leaving Chelsea, Maresca is said to have spent time in London before travelling to the Maldives with his family while considering his next career move.
He was reportedly linked with clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A, with both Juventus and Manchester City believed to have made contact prior to his Stamford Bridge exit.
Reports also suggest that Maresca used his break to study modern tactical trends and draw inspiration from other sports, including volleyball coach Julio Velasco.
Manchester City’s long-term structure and sporting project are also believed to have influenced his decision.
The 45-year-old is expected to take over a squad still competing for silverware in Guardiola’s final campaign.
Manchester City have already secured a domestic cup double and remain in contention in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal currently sit five points ahead after their 1–0 win over Burnley on Monday night.
Manchester City must win their remaining fixtures against AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa to maintain hopes of closing the gap and ending Guardiola’s reign with another league title.
