Ndokwa East NDC inaugurates 5-man zoning committee

The Ndokwa East Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a five-member committee to deliberate on the zoning of elective offices ahead of the party’s National and State Assemblies primaries for the 2027 General Elections.

This is contained in a statement issued by the NDC media team, made available to Hensard Times on Wednesday.

The statement said the decision was reached during the party’s local government executive meeting held at Urhobo House, Obiemebe Quarters, Ashaka, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta.

The meeting was attended by members of the local government executive and the 10 ward chairmen within the council area.

The newly inaugurated committee is headed by Barrister V.C. Okpufe, who also serves as the party’s Legal Adviser in Ndokwa East.

According to party leaders, the committee has been mandated to develop a framework aimed at preserving long-standing zoning arrangements within the area.

Party officials explained that the move is intended to ease the process of candidate selection and consensus building as the national leadership of the NDC prepares for screening activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the meeting, members of the executive emphasised the importance of maintaining zoning principles that have guided political balance and peaceful coexistence among various blocs over the years.

The Ndokwa East leadership also commended Senator Seriake Dickson for his wisdom in supporting the zoning of the presidency to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.

According to the executives, the same model should be encouraged in political environments where zoning arrangements have existed for decades, noting that such practices help sustain unity, fairness and political stability.

The committee is expected to submit its report at the next executive meeting, where discussions and possible adoption of its recommendations will take place.
