Ganduje’s son dumps APC for NDC race

AbdulAziz Umar, son of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

AbdulAziz is seeking to represent the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency of Kano State in the 2027 general election.

His decision to obtain the NDC nomination form marks a major political shift from the Ganduje family’s long-standing association with the APC.

The move also places him within the political circle of former Kano State governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has had a strained relationship with Ganduje over the years.

The development has generated fresh political discussions in Kano, particularly because of the long history of rivalry between the two political camps.

A viral video circulating on social media captured AbdulAziz speaking openly about his political ambition and his meetings with Kwankwaso.

In the video, he confirmed his association with the former governor’s growing political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NDC, which Kwankwaso adopted after exiting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has continued to gain political traction across Kano State in recent months.

The party has reportedly attracted several influential politicians as well as increasing grassroots support in different parts of the state.

Political observers believed AbdulAziz’s defection and decision to contest under the NDC could significantly reshape the political dynamics within the constituency.

Analysts also predicted that the contest for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado seat may emerge as one of the most competitive and closely monitored National Assembly races in Kano State, especially if the APC fields a strong candidate for the election.

The development is expected to further intensify political rivalry in Kano as parties continue early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
