NDC approves waivers for Omo-Agege, Ochei

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has granted waivers to former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With the approval, Omo-Agege is now cleared to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat, while Ochei has been given the nod to vie for the Delta North Senatorial position under the platform of the NDC.

The development followed the recent defection of the two political heavyweights from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition party.

The decision was made public in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Directo.

According to the statement, the party leadership considered the political experience and influence of both men before approving the waivers.

The NDC described Omo-Agege and Ochei as seasoned politicians whose entry into the party would further strengthen its structure and improve its chances in future elections across Delta State.

“The waivers were granted in recognition of their leadership experience, political influence and commitment to democratic governance and service to the people,” the statement said.

The party also expressed confidence in the ability of both politicians to provide quality representation for their respective senatorial districts if elected.

It noted that the two leaders possess strong grassroots support and the political capacity required to effectively represent the interests of the people of Delta Central and Delta North.

The NDC further assured the new entrants of a credible and inclusive political platform through which they could pursue their ambitions and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Reaffirming its core principles, the party stated that it remained committed to internal democracy, transparency, inclusion and the collective vision of building a better Delta State and a more prosperous Nigeria.
