NDC NEC Ratifies Primaries, Approves Electronic Voting Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ratified the outcome of its nationwide primary elections and approved plans to introduce electronic voting in future party congresses and primaries as part of reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decisions were reached at the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, which brought together the party’s presidential candidate, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), state chairmen, and other key stakeholders from across the country.
In a statement, Senator Seriake Dickson, Founder and National Leader of the NDC, said the meeting reviewed the party’s progress, assessed the recently concluded primaries, and agreed on strategic steps to strengthen the party’s national structure ahead of the next general election cycle.
Dickson commended the party’s presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, CON, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, CON, for their commitment and leadership throughout the party’s internal processes.
He also expressed appreciation to governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly aspirants, as well as party officials and supporters who participated in the primaries and related activities.
According to him, the participation and sacrifices of stakeholders from across the country had continued to strengthen the party’s resolve and confidence as it seeks to build a strong national political platform.
”The NEC, after reviewing reports from across the federation, formally endorsed the outcome of the primaries and commended the party’s electoral committees, screening and appeal panels, officials, volunteers, and candidates for what it described as the successful conduct of the exercise.
”While acknowledging that there were challenges and disagreements in some areas, the committee reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, fairness, and inclusion.
”It also resolved to intensify reconciliation efforts and broader stakeholder engagement across all levels of the party structure, ” he said.
He added,”The meeting further directed increased consultation with aspirants and stakeholders, stressing the need for unity and continued participation in the party’s development process.
”As part of its institutional reforms, the NEC approved plans to introduce electronic voting in future congresses and primary elections.
”It also directed the strengthening of digital membership registration and party data management systems, noting that technology would play a key role in improving transparency and trust in internal elections.
”The committee also resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation and membership expansion nationwide, while reinforcing party structures at ward, local government, state, zonal, and national levels as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
”In addition, the NEC reviewed recent developments in the country’s electoral environment, including aspects of the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
”It reaffirmed the party’s commitment to pursuing democratic, legal, and constitutional channels in addressing electoral issues and ensuring a level playing field.
”The meeting concluded with a call for unity and renewed focus on building what the party described as a credible, nationally accepted political movement dedicated to good governance, national development, and democratic renewal.
“The best is still ahead of us,” Dickson said.
