Christian Eriksen Conscious After Pitch Collapse

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is conscious and receiving medical evaluation after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, forcing the match to be abandoned.
The Danish Football Federation confirmed that the 34-year-old was alert and in stable condition following the incident, saying he was being closely monitored by team doctors.
The collapse occurred around 20 minutes into the second half, with broadcast footage showing Eriksen clutching his chest before falling to the pitch.
Players from both teams quickly alerted medical staff and formed a protective circle around him as treatment was administered.
Eriksen was later able to leave the pitch on his own before being taken to hospital for further checks.
Team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but recovered quickly and remained in contact with medical staff, adding that he was undergoing further tests to determine the cause.
The incident recalled his cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 in 2021, after which he returned to professional football with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted.
Denmark captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and coach Brian Riemer praised the swift response from players and medical teams, stressing that attention is now focused on Eriksen’s recovery and wellbeing.
The match was called off with Denmark leading 2-1, and players from both sides gathered on the pitch in support after the decision to abandon the game.
