Vinicius Rescues Brazil in Morocco Draw

Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford.

The result came in Carlo Ancelotti’s first competitive outing as Brazil coach at the tournament.

Morocco started brightly and controlled large periods of the first half.

Ismael Saibari gave the Atlas Lions a deserved lead before the break with a composed finish over goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The goal was created by a well-timed pass from Brahim Diaz, who unlocked the Brazilian defence.

Morocco continued to press aggressively, with Achraf Hakimi providing constant attacking threat from right-back.

Brazil struggled to settle into rhythm and were frequently forced into errors under pressure.

Vinicius Junior brought Brazil level with a moment of individual brilliance early in the second half.

He cut in from the left and fired a powerful strike past goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Earlier, Brazil missed a clear chance when Igor Thiago headed wide from close range.

Morocco remained organised and dangerous in attack, with Diaz and Bilal El Khannouss dictating play.

Both teams created fewer clear chances after the equaliser as the game tightened.

Neither side could find a winning goal as the match ended in a draw.

The result leaves both Brazil and Morocco with one point each in Group C.

Morocco will next face Scotland in Boston in their second group match.
Brazil will take on Haiti as they continue their World Cup campaign.
