2027: ADC Names Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as running mate to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 general election.

The party said the decision followed broad consultations with leaders, coalition partners and stakeholders across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The announcement was made on Monday by ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

He said Amaechi emerged runner-up in the party’s presidential primaries after strong nationwide support.

According to him, the selection reflects internal consensus-building within the party structure.

The ADC described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic alliance aimed at addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges.

Abdullahi said the partnership brings together two experienced statesmen with national reach and political depth.

He added that the ticket is designed to tackle insecurity, economic hardship and unemployment.

Amaechi’s long public service career was highlighted in the party’s announcement.

He previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and later as Governor for two terms.

He also served as Minister of Transportation at the federal level.

The party said his experience across different levels of government strengthens the ticket’s administrative capacity.

ADC further noted Amaechi’s influence in the South-South and wider southern region.

It described him as a reform-minded politician with strong grassroots appeal.

The party said the combination of Atiku Abubakar and Amaechi represents a national bridge across regions and generations.

It added that the alliance would strengthen its coalition ahead of the elections.

The ADC called on supporters, youth groups, women organisations and civil society to back its campaign.

It said the party remained committed to offering solutions to Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

The 2027 election, it said, presents an opportunity for national renewal and inclusive governance.
