NDC Moves to Strengthen Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is taking steps to strengthen internal unity and consolidate its post-primary processes, following the conclusion of its primaries across several states ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party has continued engagements with stakeholders aimed at addressing concerns around its consensus arrangements and ensuring a more cohesive preparation for the general elections.
The party has now invited aggrieved candidates to sign an indemnity form, pledging not to take legal action over the outcome of the primaries.
A notice issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, read:“You are invited to the media coverage of NDC candidates signing of indemnity form. Date: Tuesday, 16th June, 2026 Venue: NDC party Secretariat Time: 2pm.”
The development comes about a week after the National Leader of the NDC and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, defended the party’s primaries, insisting that all candidates emerged through due process and stakeholder consensus.
Dickson dismissed allegations of vote-buying and ticket racketeering, describing them as “cheap blackmail” aimed at discrediting the party and undermining its credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He further stated that the party had no internal crisis regarding its presidential ticket, which features Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, but urged Kwankwaso to caution supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement against inflammatory remarks targeting party leaders.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the NDC, Moses Cleopas, announced that the party had established a presidential campaign council fund as part of preparations for the upcoming elections.
According to him, the party is committed to restructuring its internal funding system to prevent concentration of resources in the hands of a few individuals.
Cleopas said the focus of the party remains the 2027 general elections, stressing that internal distractions would not be allowed to derail its preparations.
As the NDC intensifies campaign planning, leadership figures insist the party is working to maintain unity, even as concerns persist over the fallout from its primaries.
