Algeria Rally Past Jordan to Revive World Cup Hopes

Algeria came from behind to defeat Jordan 2–1 at Levi’s Stadium, securing their first World Cup victory since 2014.

The win keeps Algeria’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages alive after a hard-fought Group J encounter.

Jordan shocked the North African side in the 36th minute through Nizar Al Rashdan.

Al Rashdan struck against the run of play to give the tournament debutants a surprise lead.

Despite Algeria dominating possession, Jordan held firm through disciplined defending and goalkeeping.

Algeria returned from the break with renewed intensity under coach Vladimir Petkovic.

Vladimir Petkovic pushed his team forward as pressure mounted on the Jordan defence.

The breakthrough came when substitute Nadhir Benbouali rose highest to head in from a corner.

Benbouali’s equaliser shifted momentum firmly in Algeria’s favour.

Jordan struggled to contain wave after wave of Algerian attacks in the second half.

The decisive goal arrived when Amine Gouiri bundled in from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Gouiri’s strike sealed a dramatic turnaround for the North African team.

The result moves Algeria to three points in Group J, level with Austria.

Jordan’s defeat ends their hopes of progressing further in the tournament.

Argentina were confirmed as group winners following the outcome.

Although he did not score, Ibrahim Maza played a key role in Algeria’s comeback.

Maza’s energy and attacking runs created several chances and tested goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila.

Jordan’s players were left devastated at full-time after coming close to a famous result.

Goalkeeper Abulaila produced several important saves to keep Jordan in the contest for long spells.

However, Algeria’s persistence proved decisive, particularly from set-piece situations.

Both Algerian goals came from corners, highlighting their aerial strength.

Benbouali’s header and Gouiri’s close-range finish ensured a vital victory for Algeria.
