Police Seize Military-Style Uniforms in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a truck transporting military camouflage uniforms and suspected illicit substances.

The operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit along the Lekki-Epe corridor following intelligence reports.
Police recovered 47 sacks containing military camouflage uniforms during the exercise.

Authorities also discovered 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances concealed in the vehicle.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed the development while briefing journalists on Tuesday in Ikeja.

He said preliminary findings showed the truck was heading towards the South-East region.

According to the police commissioner, officers acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about the movement of the items.

Fatai revealed that four suspects were arrested in connection with the operation.

The suspects are currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to uncover those behind the shipment.

“This was intercepted by operatives of the tactical team while it was being moved out of Lagos State,” Fatai said.

“We received intelligence on the movement and immediately swung into action.”

He explained that the vehicle was travelling from Lagos to an undisclosed destination in the South-East.

“The vehicle conveying the sacks was headed from Lagos to a destination in the South-East.

“Following the intelligence, the vehicle was intercepted and those transporting the items were arrested, ” he said.

“They are currently in our custody and investigations are ongoing,” Fatai added.

The commissioner confirmed that suspected illicit drugs were also found alongside the military uniforms.

He said investigators are working to determine the source and intended use of the recovered items.

According to him, the case remains under active investigation.

Fatai expressed concern over the possible misuse of military uniforms by criminal groups.

He noted that armed gangs and bandits have frequently been seen wearing similar outfits during operations.

“Areas where we have seen these bandits, we have seen them wear these uniforms all over the place.

“Who knows what they want to do with this, nobody could tell, ” he said.

“We are still investigating to get to the root of the matter for now,” the police commissioner added.

He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals connected to the shipment.
