The Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has praised ongoing football infrastructure development in Nigeria after inspecting the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Adamu commended the project as a major legacy investment that would strengthen Nigerian football development, noting that the facility would support youth talent growth and improve the country’s football structure for future generations.
He said the infrastructure could help produce future stars similar to Nigeria’s football legends.
He also expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by its president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for what he described as a well-planned and ambitious project.
According to him, such facilities are essential for a country of Nigeria’s size to properly nurture talent across all national teams and age categories.
Adamu further noted his engagement with Nigerian football authorities during a working visit connected to planning for upcoming CAF events, including the CAF Congress and CAF Awards, which he said the confederation intends to host in Nigeria.
In response, NFF President Gusau reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to completing the project within the agreed timeline.
He disclosed that the construction, which began in March last year on a two-year contract, is now about 15 months into execution, with roughly nine months remaining.
Gusau expressed confidence that the contractors would meet the deadline, adding that one of the artificial pitches is already about 80 per cent completed while other components continue simultaneously.
He said regular inspections were ongoing due to the project’s proximity to the NFF headquarters.
He maintained that the facility would provide modern accommodation and training infrastructure for national teams, supporting long-term football development in Nigeria.
