NDC demands sack of Gbajabiamila

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to an alleged corruption scheme involving a non-existent government agency and the alleged sale of public appointments.

The opposition party said the allegations, if left unaddressed, could undermine public confidence in the administration and compromise any ongoing investigation into the matter.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC alleged that Gbajabiamila was connected to the activities of a purported agency known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which it claimed was used to divert public funds.

The party further alleged that despite the Presidency’s reported denial of the agency’s existence, it was still able to operate financial accounts and access public resources through questionable channels.

The NDC also questioned how an organisation described as non-existent could allegedly open accounts at the Central Bank of Nigeria and secure approval for staff positions from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service.

According to the statement, allegations made by a self-identified Director-General of the PFIPC suggested that the agency received budgetary allocations and was involved in large-scale financial transactions, including claims of payments tied to appointments and contract awards.

The opposition party described the claims as deeply troubling and said they pointed to what it called a pattern of institutional corruption and abuse of office.

It also referenced additional allegations involving alleged financial demands linked to the Chief of Staff and called for full investigations into reported transactions and appointments.

The NDC urged President Bola Tinubu to set up an independent panel of inquiry and directed anti-graft agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and the Nigeria Police Force, to investigate the matter thoroughly.

The party further called for scrutiny of relevant government offices, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General, and the Office of the Head of Civil Service, over their alleged roles in the controversy.

Reaffirming its position, the NDC insisted that any official found culpable must be prosecuted in line with the law, regardless of status or political affiliation.
