Hundreds of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Olona Ward 4, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, in a move party leaders described as a boost to the growing political influence of Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei.
The defectors were received by NDC leaders and supporters in the ward, with the development coming amid increased political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, recently left the APC after citing the need for broader political growth and continued commitment to public service.
Speaking during the reception, party stakeholders welcomed the new members, describing their decision to join the NDC as a sign of growing acceptance of the party’s message and leadership direction in the area.
The development was seen by supporters as strengthening Ochei’s grassroots mobilisation efforts and expanding the party’s structure across Olona Ward 4 and surrounding communities.
The former speaker had, while announcing his resignation from the APC, said his decision followed careful reflection and consultations, adding that his political journey remained focused on public service and broader growth.
NDC supporters at the event urged the new members to actively participate in building the party at the grassroots level, stressing the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving their political goals.
The latest movement adds to a wave of political realignments in Delta State as parties intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.
