Ochei hails historic Nigeria tennis double

President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has hailed Nigeria’s historic double promotion in international tennis, describing it as a major milestone in the country’s quest to reclaim its place among Africa’s leading tennis nations.
Ochei, in a statement on Saturday, congratulated Nigeria’s women’s tennis team following their promotion to the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II, commending the players and coaching crew for their resilience, discipline, and commitment.
The achievement comes shortly after Nigeria’s men’s team secured promotion to the Davis Cup World Group II, marking a remarkable year for the country’s tennis programme with both national teams recording major breakthroughs.
The NTF President described the feat as unprecedented in Nigerian tennis history, noting that the simultaneous success of both the men’s and women’s teams reflects the federation’s strategic direction and growing investment in player development.
“I heartily congratulate our exceptional women athletes and the technical crew on this remarkable achievement.
”Your resilience, discipline, teamwork, and determination have once again made Nigeria proud,” Ochei said.
He added that the accomplishments demonstrate that Nigerian tennis has the potential to compete successfully on the global stage when athletes are supported with the right structures and opportunities.
Ochei also commended the National Sports Commission (NSC), under the leadership of Chairman Malam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for providing support towards the growth and development of tennis in Nigeria.
He expressed appreciation to the NTF Board members and other stakeholders for their dedication, sacrifice, and collective efforts in repositioning the sport.
According to him, the recent successes are not the final destination but a foundation for greater achievements as the federation continues to focus on developing champions and inspiring the next generation of Nigerian tennis players.
“This is another milestone. Together, we will continue to build champions, inspire the next generation, and fly the Nigerian flag proudly on the world stage,” Ochei said.
