Lawyer and good governance advocate, Liborous Oshoma, has called for a complete restructuring of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), arguing that the oil firm must stop being treated as a funding source for government operations if it is to regain public trust.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Saturday, Oshoma said the government’s reform efforts should go beyond changing the company’s legal framework, insisting that deeper institutional changes are required to address years of governance concerns.
He argued that the Federal Government must reconsider its relationship with the national oil company and stop relying on it as an “automatic source” of funds.
According to Oshoma, the government needs to redesign the entire structure of the organisation to make it more efficient, transparent and commercially driven rather than allowing political interests to influence its operations.
